Growing up with my dad as a motorcycle racer always made me proud, but it wasn’t until I got older that I learned to appreciate what it takes to be a flat track motorcycle racer.   Reaching speeds of 130 mph down the straight a ways and 100 mph into turns gives me a pretty good idea of the nerves and condition a racer has to be in.  Having good coordination, balance and skill (and a Harley Davidson!) were essential to achieve success in this profession.  I learned that at one time, my dad held the lap record on every national mile track and was 4th in the nation in points.  I am very proud of what he accomplished during his racing career. Not only was he a good racer but he was also a very kind, funny and generous person.  He took care of his family, friends and anyone he came into contact with.  There is not a day that goes by that he doesn’t enter my mind.  I don’t think I could ever put into words how I feel to have had Rex Beauchamp as my dad.
